So a project I've been working on for the last few months has started airing on the Knowledge Network! "Luna, Chip & Inkie: Adventure Rangers Go" is a kids comedy cartoon focused on three young animal friends and their adventures in and around the small rural community of Eagle Creek! With songs from Daniel Ingram, and animation by the Cartoon Conrad crew, it's a fun little show, and I hope it'll be a hit with the young kids in it's target audience! Part of the reason I hope it's a hit is that the 3 main characters would make awesome plushies and I want one.
You can watch episodes on demand here, or if you're in British Columbia (whether in-person or via-VPN) you can watch episodes as they air here! It's been a while since I last updated here, but I just wanted to update that, as of September 2021, I left Huminah Huminah, and rejoined Cartoon Conrad! HH was valuable experience, and now having the skills and confidence to animate at a professional level using ToonBoom Harmony is definitely something I'm glad to be taking forward through my career! And with this, brings a necessary update to my CV:
As you can see, I've already been pretty busy there! I'm looking forward to the projects I've been working on going live, because I've had plenty of pieces I can't wait to be able to include in my showreel!
And I appreciate the trust Cartoon Conrad shows in me by allowing me to work on the Retakes Team of the current project - it's one thing to animate, it's another to be allowed to modify existing animation and be trusted to bring others' work up to the necessary standards and meet client demands & expectations. Hopefully a sign of upward momentum to come! A sequel to my 2018 video, I used the time between projects at Huminah to create another micro-skit comedy video! I had fun making this, and people seem to really be enjoying it so far!
I also submitted it on Newgrounds, where it won the Daily 3rd Place award for content submitted to the site that day! So I'm pleased as punch with that! There was some stiff competition that day, so to see it do that well is really encouraging! You can see it on Newgrounds here! Enjoy! Just posting to let you all know I've updated my resume to reflect my recent work at Huminah Huminah Animation, including when I'll be shifting over to Cartoon Conrad to work on an exciting new project there!
It's been good working at Huminah, and I'm glad I get to continue working there this week, but I'm excited for the new challenges to come in April too!
A show I worked on at HH Animation these last few months is now available on Amazon Prime! I worked on episodes 8 through 12, and I'm sad they aren't sticking with Huminah for season 2, cos I was looking forward to getting to work on this show again.
Regardless, there's plenty more work coming down the pipeline, so I'll be sure to update when there's something new to watch! Figured it was time to spruce up the ol' showreel and try to get back on the professional animation horse! Included some of the animation exercises I've been doing lately to stay in practice, as well as some clips from a project that hopefully will see release sometime this year that I first worked on back in 2017! Enjoy!
I may not be working at a studio at the moment, but it's always a good idea to keep the animation skills sharp. Figured I'd practice with this walk cycle of a tiefling. Would probably fix some stuff with the near-side leg if I were to go over it again, but other than that I'm pretty happy with it!
I've been between contracts for a little while now, and I've used the last week or so to create an animated comedy sketch I've had the script written for since 2018! I'm pretty pleased with how it came out for just being one week from recording audio to animatic to final animation, even for such a simple skit, and I hope you enjoy it too! Over the Christmas holidays, a number of folk asked me to draw portraits for them as Christmas presents! I happily obliged, and here they are: If you like the possum comics, you'll love this zine - with 8 never-before-seen possum comics, and new commentary, printed on fantastically textured recycled paper!
Available now on Etsy! I splashed out on good printing - flip side is I need to shift 20 copies to break even, but it's worth it, the zines came out looking so good, and I really think anyone who's liked the comics I've posted so far won't be disappointed when they get theirs. I'll even leave a thank you doodle in your copy if you order one! Shipping is free to the UK, or £1.00 internationally. One of the best parts is how the price turned out - it's £4.20, cos "lol weed", but it turns out that is $6.90 in Canadian. The price is the magic number in two currencies! So additional lulz there! If you know anyone who also likes cute animals and relatable nihilist humour, this would make a pretty good gift! A pilot that I worked on as a Clean-Up Artist has just won two awards from Screen Nova Scotia, taking both Best Aniamted Series, and the DANS Award for Outstanding Achievement in Animation! I'm stoked to have gotten to work on a project that managed to get that level of recognition, and I'm excited to see where the project will go from here. I would love the opportunity to work on it again once I'm back in Canada.
Powered by a surge in views on Grave Mistake, my YouTube channel has crossed the 10,000 subscriber mark! This is an awesome achievement that I honestly never thought I'd get to hit! In celebration, I made a short video, bringing back the character that really did the heavy lifting in getting my channel to this point, using original animation assets and backgrounds from Grave Mistake, dug up from an old hard drive. Big thanks to everyone who's clicked that subscribe button so far, and hopefully this will just be part of launching onward to bigger and better things when I do eventually make a proper return to professional animation!
Throughout February and March, I've been taking a 5 week course, refreshing my knowledge in how to animate in Toonboom Harmony. I don't feel I ever fully got to grips with it while I was at Cartoon Conrad previously, but this has been a great experience, and has really made me feel a lot more comfortable animating with the software. I'm excited to bring this skill back with me when I get back to Canada and get back into animating proper.
Embeds of the animation work I did are below the Read More, if you wanted to check them out. It started out as a couple of doodles for my Instagram (@timsplosiondoodles), but soon I had 12 of them and I wanted to make them into full comics, so I did. If you're a big fan of cute animals and existential dread, then you'll probably like these!
Back in 2014, I sketched out a comic I was toying with, about a werewolf and a fox. I always wanted to finish it, and coming back to the UK, I found the sketchpad with the original drawings and decided to finally get it done. Enjoy! These started as little doodles done to amuse myself, but I eventually built up enough of them to put together a whole asdf/Vine compilation style video for them. I'm actually really happy with some of the animation in here too - particularly the first skit and the "get out of your own head" skit.
After years of talking about it and planning, the first Doctor Chaotic short is finally complete! The time I've had out of studio has given me some free time and creative energy to finally pour into completing this short, which has existed as doodles and separate little plans in many various points since back when I was at university. The backgrounds are definitely something I want to improve on next time I do a Doctor Chaotic short, but I'm mostly happy with the character animation, and most importantly I'm happy that this finally exists, after so long stuck as an idea. Hope you enjoy it!
